KAIST College of Engineering hosted the 2021 AOTULE(Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering) Conference (AOTULE) as a two-day online event from November 9th (Tue).

AOTULE is a consultative body comprising 13 leading engineering colleges in Asia and Oceania formed in 2007 to improve the quality of engineering education and research through international cooperation. It holds an annual conference which includes the Dean’s Meeting and Student Conference as main events.

This year’s AOTULE was the 16th, with the 15th being replaced by an online Dean’s Meeting last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the in-person conference was postponed to 2021, the continued spread of COVID-19 this year has led to the event being held online for the second year in a row.

On November 9th, the first day of the event, the Dean’s Meeting, Steering Committee Meeting and Staff Meeting were held, while the Student Conference was held on the 10th.

2021 Dean’s meeting was attended by around 60 participants made up of the deans and faculty members of the 13 colleges, including Professor Dongman Lee, Dean of KAIST College of Engineering, and Professor Takaaki Manaka, Chair of the Steering Committee. This year’s topic was 'AOTULE Collaboration for Untact Society'.

At the Dean’s Meeting, Dean Dongman Lee made a presentation on the current situation and achievements of KAIST and the College of Engineering, with a detailed introduction to the STAR Platform currently being developed at the College of Engineering.

28 students from the 13 colleges participated in the Student Conference with presentations. It was chaired by Professor Yoon-Jin Yoon, Chair of the College of Engineering External Cooperation Committee, while Professors Hyun-jung Kim (Industrial & Systems Engineering), Choongki Sung (Nuclear and Quantum Engineering), and Dong-hyuk Shin (Aerospace Engineering) of the External Cooperation Committee participated in the panel as judges. Together, they selected 5 presenters to receive the Best Presentation Award for the day.
